What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a condition where breast tissue enlarges in men. The cause of this problem is unclear in most cases and is not related to hormonal problems. Gynecomastia can be very embarassing for men because the enlargement of the breast area may be significant, difficult to hide, and make it so that men or adolescents cannot wear clothing such as tee shirts, tank tops, or athletic appearing tops. Weight loss in most cases does not improve the condition to any significant degree, but surgery can be very helpful.

Through a small incision, carefully placed, Dr. Bresnick can remove excess breast tissue and contour the chest area. He uses several different techniques depending on the individual patient’s needs, including liposuction, ultrasounic liposuction, and direct excision. Patients have been extremely grateful and pleased with the improvements achieved with gynecomastia repair.

What to Expect

Gynecomastia repair is performed in Dr. Bresnick’s fully accredited surgical center, Encino Surgicenter. Following the procedure, patients will relax in the recovery room for a short period of time. You will be able to go home an hour or two after surgery. Dr. Bresnick will check you the day after surgery. You will be provided special garments for your gynecomastia surgery and can wear these under your clothing for several weeks after surgery. These garments are easily concealed beneath clothing, and support the treated areas to speed healing and shrinkage. Most patients can return to work within a week or less and may resume exercise within several weeks.
