Dr. Jonathan S. Jacobs M.D., D.M.D., F.A.C.S.


Dr. Jacobs completed The University of Rochester in 1968 and attended Harvard School of Dental Medicine where he graduated cum laude in 1971. He then completed medical school, a combined residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery and trained in general surgery at Vanderbilt University from 1971 through 1975. He remained at Vanderbilt as the Acting Chairman of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery until 1977 when he moved to Virginia Beach to complete a residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine.

He has been practicing Plastic Surgery in the Hampton Roads area for the last 25 years and has been on the faculty of our medical school that entire time. Locally, he also volunteers as an interviewer for candidates for admission to Eastern Virginia Medical School and was Chairman of the Surgical Executive Committee at Sentara Leigh Hospital for seven years He is Associate Professor of Clinical Plastic Surgery at EVMS. He has published 47 scientific papers and book chapters and has contributed substantially to the medical literature.

He is very active in our state and national plastic surgical organizations. He is Past President of the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, and he is Past President of the Virginia Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He has been the Membership Chairman of The American Society of Temporomandibular Joint Surgeons, and he has served on the Board of Directors for The American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He has served as chairman of the ethics committee for that organization, the largest group of Plastic Surgeons in the world. He is Board Certified in both Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and has acted as a guest examiner for The American Board of Plastic Surgeons. He is senior surgeon for a yearly trip to Honduras for the International Hospital for Children and has volunteered surgical care and teaching in third world countries on more than twenty such trips. His current interests are in cosmetic and breast surgery, and he brings special expertise to Associates in Plastic Surgery in regard to maxillofacial surgery.




Dr. John S. Alspaugh, M.D. F.A.C.S.


Dr. John S. Alspaugh graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Chemistry from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Ohio State University in 1982 and again graduated cum laude. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor fraternity as a junior medical student.

Dr. Alspaugh then compiled a five year General Surgery Residency, culminating in Chief Resident at the Medical College of Virginia, 1982-1987. The following two years, 1987-1989, he was a Plastic and Reconstructive Resident at the Medical College of Virginia and was awarded the Theograj Academic Award. He completed his medical training with Microsurgery Fellowship at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute, Louisville, KY in 1990. He has been Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery since 1992. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Humera Surgical Society, Medical Society of Virginia, Virginia Beach Medical Society, The American College of Surgeons, and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Alspaugh specializes in all areas of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery and attends numerous conferences to stay current on the latest techniques and procedure. Such as: American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Aesthetic Meeting Orlando, Dallas Rhinoplasty Symposium, American Society of Plastic Surgeons Meetings, in 1998: San Francisco, 1992 Boston, 1995 Philadelphia, 2003 Los Angles, 2007: Baltimore. 2006: Baker Gordon Symposium on Cosmetic Surgery, 2004: St. John’s Plastic Surgery Workshop, 1993: Tortula, 1995: Vail, Colorado, The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, San Diego, California 2008.

He has volunteered on several reconstructive surgery missions to foreign countries including Guatemala and Vietnam.




Dr. Michael J. Denk, M.D., F.A.C.S.


Dr. Denk completed his undergraduate education at Hamilton College in 1982. He went on to complete medical school at the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine in 1986. He remained at S.U.N.Y. at Buffalo for a five-year residency in general surgery, during which time he was chosen for the Excellence in Teaching Award in 1990. Dr. Denk then moved to Virginia to complete a residency in plastic surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in 1994. An additional fellowship at the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at New York University completed his medical training in 1995.

Dr. Denk practiced Plastic Surgery in western New York for 4 ½ years prior to moving back to Virginia in 2000. His practice interests cover all areas of cosmetic surgery: breast surgery, body contouring, liposuction and liposculpture, facial and eyelid rejuvenation, rhinoplasty, soft tissue fillers and fat grafting. Cosmetic uses of Botox and body contouring procedures following gastic bypass are also areas of focus.

Dr. Denk achieved Board Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1997. He has been asked to lecture extensively on topics ranging from cosmetic breast surgery to the correct use of Botox. Furthermore, Parents Magazine recently featured one of Dr. Denk’s patients in an article about cosmetic surgery in children. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at EVMS. Dr. Denk is a member of the Medical Society of Virginia, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, and the Virginia Beach Medical Society.
